Compatibility

I had a friend who once said, "My husband and I don't have anything in common, not like you and Birch do." I almost laughed, because I think we all go through phases where we wonder "How in the world did we ever get married?"

Birch and I do have some similar interests but usually do them separately. We both like to exercise, but he requires a ball and a competition; I prefer being alone outside on a run. We both like to read but I usually have a novel or parenting book while he is always reading the news.

For Christmas Birch got me a cookbook, The Bread Baker's Apprentice. It's another one of those gifts that's for "me" but also for him. This baker has bread baking down to a science and the book reads kind of like a textbook. I decided that's why I'm not a big fan--it takes all of the emotion out of bread-making. Sounds silly but I love making my mom's recipe for rolls or a loaf of bread that a friend shared with me.

But....this book has given us a new hobby to do together so I'll take it. We've made some tasty English muffins and this amazing Sicilian bread. I didn't take a picture but it looked pretty close to the bread below:

Birch is doing an at-home reading elective for school right now so it's given us a little more time for baking. We're also trying to plan a vacation for just the two of us after he graduates, probably a cruise.

What do you and your husband do together? I know some of you are really good about spending time together and others are probably more like us, taking any little thing that you might have in common after being married a few years. Tonight it was Chex Muddy Buddies--yum! But is there anyone who doesn't like those?

Justin and I like to play basketball together. we play a game of 21. It took me awhile to get good at basketball so that it wasnt just silly but it is fun to do athletic things together cause you can you know turn up the touching a bit. Give each other butt slaps when they make a good shot.

Troy and I love eating so anything related to food makes us happy. We also like to play games and watch similar shows and movies. However, we are very different in many ways but it makes things interesting:) I do wish that he liked to run, but I guess then I would have to find someone to watch the kids and someone to cheer for me.

Nate and I love to laugh! No, we don't do laughing yoga or anything like that, but we've made it a point to just sit down and talk at least 15 minutes each day. We don't talk about anything in particular, or try to root out deep emotions or anything, we just talk. Most nights we make each other laugh, other times more serious things come up. Either way, it makes us feel connected. Pretty much anything we do together involves laughing.

Well I am needy I guess, because I make Jess do just about everything with me... he is the only person in the whole world I don't think I could ever "need a day off" from.

But my sister just shared a good idea that her and her husband do. In their spare time they read the funnies from the readers digest to each other while cuddling on the couch.

Okay first Brittany's comment cracks me up. Nothin beats a nice butt slap in the middle of a basketball game.

Okay I haven't talked to you in forever. Looks like life is good for you guys. We sure miss seeing you guys. Oh and that bread looks delicous!

What a fun post!! Love the bread! Miss you all down in Tucson! I am excited to find out what the next step in your little families journey is!!! I know match day is right around the corner!

Any way, Josh and I love to go fishing together. Its relaxing and quiet, slow pace and we can talk and joke while doing it. We also love to make dinner together. It is rare that we get a chance to do this any more, but we had a New Year's Eve party at our house and made a ton of killer Chinese Food! We had so much fun! That is what we do for our anniversary each year, make some new, fun dish together!!

Michael and I are so much like you and Birch. In fact, all I've asked for for my birthday is for Michael to come to one of my Zumba classes. It sounds like a bad prank or a dare and that I just want him to be embarrassed but it's totally not. In my mind it is the equivalent of him coming to watch me run a race or see me perform in a dance recital. I just want him to see and experience what I do and love and what brings me joy. Just like I go surfing with him, you know?

K, so novel but I also want to know if you would recommend that book? I have been wanting a bread book like this for a while now.

K I already commented on this post but are you guys just dying or what? I bet you are SO anxious! I remember feeling like I couldn't hardly wait! Sorry, probably just making it worse, I know. But could you do me a favor? Please blog or FB about it asap? Pretty please? I'm so excited for you guys.

Oh and ps, if you don't know what I'm talking about (hahaha yeah right) I'm talking about the match of course. :D
