One of my New Year's resolutions is to get our family eating one meal with fish. I'm a big fan of seafood but Birch just can't get past the flavor. He knows we should be eating it so now the challenge is to find a "non-fishy" fish dinner. Do any of you have recipes or ideas? I think fish like Tilapia and Halibut are more mild, right?

Don't do it!! Fish is disgusting and I hate it.
Jeremy, however, is a big fan of seafood. He gets those frozen salmon fillets from Costco and cooks them himself, and then cleans it all up, and then deodorizes the house so I don't have to smell the disgustingness.
Good luck getting some ideas, but Birch is right on this one. Fish is gross.
Sorry Camille, I am with Birch, I can't get past the smell.
The only fish I can tolerate is small breaded pieces, preferably with a sauce.
This is not a debate! Thank you for your comments, but does anyone have anything USEFUL to say? :)
I am a fan of fish for sure!! Most seafood I am not a fan of, but I have learned to like fish because it's good for you! There's a dish from the food network that is kinda complicated, but really yummy. It uses fish, a mango salsa, and coconut rice. I think the strong flavors really help to eliminate any fish worries that people might have. :) If you go to the Food Network website, search for this recipe: Grilled Marinated Fish with Tropical Salsa and Coconut Rice. That's the name of it (long, huh?). It calls for mahi-mahi, but other fish (or even chicken) work, too.
We love this seasoning called Johnny's seasoning. We use it on fish, veggies, etc. It's delicious. It's a West Coast thing, I think, bc it was the staple item that our friends talked about in Washington a few summers ago. We melt a few Tbsp of butter, drizzle it over the fish, and then sprinkle on the seasoning. (Broil for 10-12 min and remember that the fish should just be flaky, not gooey... but it still cooks for about 90 sec. after you take it out of the oven.)
Allen's favorite (which is probably not so healthy...) is to top the fish with this mixture: 1/4 c. mayo, 1 Tbsp regular mustard, 1/2 tsp Italian Seasoning (dressing mix). Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Yum!
Good luck!
**Sorry... this ended up being really long!!
Hey, I did mention the salmon...
Halibut and Tilapia (sp?) are delicious! I have a great recipe for those who would like to "ease" into it. But I LOVE fish - unlike many who have commented. Salmon is much fishier tasting and smelling - so probably not the greatest to start with.
I buy the frozen halibut and/or tilapia steaks from Costco (they are awesome!) and you just put them in the fridge for a day or so to thaw and then cook them! If you need any recipes, let me know! Good luck!!
Oh yeah and Mahi-Mahi! Soooo good!!
Tilapia is very mild. I like it! And fish is SO good for you. You are smart to start eating it!
Alright thats it. I'll see what I can come up with. Fish is my absolute favorite. Any kind, any way. How about you guys come over to our house for dinner this weekend and we'll make fish. If Birch doesn't gag then we'll talk recipes!
We get orange Roughy and I spoon some oj concentrate over it with a little orange zest and cook till done! the kids and hubby love it and they usually HATE seafood!
Also - i found a recipe online for maple crusted salmon and everyone liked that one ok.... ;) I LOVED it;)
Uh, let me see...I am married to a fish/seafood lover...and I love him with every beat of my heart, but... I HATE FISH AND SEAFOOD!!!!!
every once in awhile I fix salmon that comes seasoned and frozen in portions--cajun seasoned. I just barely manage to fix it. Sorry. I try to remind Les that I'm still a good person! :) Love, Linda
