Experienced Moms Wanted

Since Haley was born Trevor has started stuttering and has had almost constant diarrhea. I've been reading a lot about stuttering and learned that stressful circumstances can be one of the causes. Has anyone else had a stuttering child after a new baby arrived? I think it's one of those things that will pass in a few months but it would still help to hear any success stories.

As for the diarrhea, I don't know if that is stress-induced but the poor kid is walking like a sore cowboy. It also makes two sets of diapers even more fun. :)

I'm also trying to figure out Haley's stomach. I was able to eat anything while breastfeeding Trevor but she is a lot more sensitive. She must have a bruise on her back now from so many pats and rubs trying to get the gas and burps out. I have been eating a lot of chocolate and when I stopped yesterday, Haley did much better. Dang it! I must love this kid a lot to give up the chocolate. Then we had broccoli for dinner and the routine started all over again. I've been reading about what foods can cause problems for babies and hoping my list won't be too long.

Just when I thought I had babies figured out, baby #2 didn't come out just like baby #1.

P.S. Sorry for the constant "mom posts." I try not to be a one-theme blogger but it's not turning out that way these days.

Oh, she's so sweet! And TINY! I wish I could help, but Tristan is kind of like Trevor...I don't have to be TOO careful what I eat. I hope somebody has some helpful advice for you!

Yeah... isn't that wonderful when baby #2 is totally different than baby #1? Luckily for me I'd have to say #2 was easier as a baby. However, he's a HANDFUL now. So here's to hoping Haley is an angel as a toddler!!!

I had to avoid onions when I fed Katelyn-she was a lot happier! For Trevor's problem...bananas? rice?toast? I'm struggling teaching Katelyn things that Casey picked up right away (like not hitting?)--my second child is VERY different from my first, but it is so fun having two. Everytime I think of our life without Katelyn, I think it would be so boring! Good luck!

I think the stuttering can be normal even without major new stresses in a kid's life. I remember Miriam stuttering to varying degrees during a few periods over the last couple years. She always got over it. I think it's sometimes just a little hurdle they have to clear before they move on to a new stage of speech development.

Sometimes a stomach just needs to get reset if it is running too acidic. I would just give him crackers, toast, and water for one day and then start feeding him normally again the next day.
I looked in one of my doula books about the gas part and it said only to avoid the foods that you have tried and have caused gas but not to go out of your way to avoid any kind of food in general. If she is swallowing a lot of air in general (like when she is crying) she will be more gassy. The best way to relieve gas without patting her on the back is to have her lay on her stomach she can do it on the floor if she doesnt mind or on your legs while you are sitting.

I wish I had some advice to give... these are things I haven't even really thought about yet. I hope Trevor gets feeling better soon. It makes sense that it could be stress-induced and that it will pass with the time, but that's not the easiest to hear when you want to be able to fix things! And I'm glad you've been posting so much mom stuff. Believe me, it helps more people than just you and I love hearing about Haley and Trevor!

Hi Camille-
I checked with Yvonne- she says not to worry about the stuttering since he is only 2 years old. She says there is a lot going on developmentally and it should pass with time. As I am not a mommy yet, I have not other advice, other than to say your children are beautiful and they are so lucky to have you!

Camille I love your posts. I love finding out about the day to day workings of a busy mom. For Trevor, often toddler's diarrhea that is not viral- or bacterial-based can be improved by avoiding juices with high fructose content (like apple), and increasing fiber and fat in the diet (i.e. whole fruits, vegetables, grains, cheese etc...). This may seem counterintuitive since often adult diarrhea is caused by infection and therefore adults are advised against this type of diet. But toddler's diarrhea is different and if Trevor doesn't seem acutely ill, you might try these changes and see if they help.

Hey friend, Riley went through the stuttering thing about a year ago and we didn't have baby #2!! I asked the speech ladies at school and they told me it is totally normal. He is learning a lot of new language right now. (and making adjustments not being the only child anymore) He should grow out of it soon. Riley's lasted a couple of months.
I love the new photos!!

Congrats on the arrival of Haley! Our little guy had the same stomach issues early on and I found chocolate was also one of the culprits so I laid off that for awhile. Now at 2 months it doesn't seem to bother him when I have the occasional chocolate so hopefully you'll only have to give it up for a bit.
